A.T. Kearney Career Night

In April 2012 Hypatia’s members joined the Career Night hosted by A.T. Kearney. The A.T. Kearney consultants shared their personal experiences on topics relevant to ambitious, female engineers interested in learning more about the work life of a consultant and how to apply engineering skills to business practice. Furthermore, the event provided information about A.T. Kearney and gave Hypatia’s members the oppurtunity to mingle with the consultants.

It was a great and exciting night at A.T.Kearney. Because of the small scale of this event the participants really had the oppurtunity to talk to the consultants and find out what was driving them. For a lot of Hypatia’s members it have never been clear what it is that consultants do and why they are valuable for a company. This night helped many discover that and it gave a grasp into the kitchen of consultancy.

The night started with a talk from a senior consultant who had left consultancy and came back again. He talked about the oppurtunities to work in industry after concultancy and why he liked consultancy so much. From Ditte we learned how consultancy is once you have just started. She explained her tasks for her first case and what she accomplished with that. This gave the participants an insight into why consultancy is important. Next the participants talked with a consultant who has been working in the oil and petrol area. She gave the members tips and tricks for their studies. Last but not least was Petra, a senior consultant who has managed to combine consultancy with having three kids.
